When a man falls in love with a woman who isn't his wife, there's not much he can legally do about it. Divorce isn't legal in Italy at this time, so he can't do that. However, there is a loophole that results in minimal jail time: if he finds his wife in bed with another man, and shoots her in a fit of rage, he will only serve for a few years before his release. Ferdinando has found his new love. All he needs now is a new love for his old love so he can kill her and move on.
