Beautiful Regina Lambert (Audrey Hepburn) comes home from vacation with plans to divorce her husband—only to find he has been murdered and their apartment is empty. The mystery surrounding her husband’s death grows deeper when she is summoned to meet CIA Agent Hamilton Bartholomew (Walter Matthau). According to Bartholomew, her husband stole money, double-crossed his thieving buddies, and was murdered by them. He insists that Regina return the money. In desperation, she calls a recent acquaintance from her vacation, Peter Joshua (Cary Grant) for help. This sets off an elaborate search for the money among Peter, Agent Bartholomew and a series of quirky associates of Regina’s late husband while Regina struggles to determine which man she can trust.
