‘Fa yeung nin wa’ is set in 1960s China and is about a newspaper editor called Chow Mo-Wan (Tony Leung Chiu Wai) and his wife Mrs Chow (Maggie Cheung). Mr and Mrs Chow move into a new apartment building in Shanghai where they meet Su Ki-zhen and her executive husband. The story develops with the spouses of Mr Chow and Su Ki-zhen being away a lot and these neighbours being pushed together in this crowded apartment building. The friendship between the neighbours develops as they realize that they have a lot in common, in particular their interests in exotic noodle shops and martial arts. Their spouses soon suspects that they are having an affair and are fearful for their relationships. A bond develops between the abandoned spouses as they vow to support each other through their difficult times.
